Wallace M. Swanson

U.S. Veteran

Wallace M. Swanson, age 88, died May 15, 2012 at the Regina Nursing Home in Hastings.

 

Wallace was the eldest son of Arthur and Myrtle (Benson) Swanson. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1944-1946, he worked for MN Dot for 38 years. His retirement years were spent golfing, dancing, playing cards, traveling and wintering in Arizona, and enjoying his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, Wallace is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Johnson); four daughters Cheryl (Mike) Neeley of New Brighton, Mary (Dr. Michael) Fuchs of Huron, SD, Laura (John) Welshons of Hastings, and Doreen (Robert) Nelson of San Antonio, TX.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers Harlan (Glennis) of Hastings, Ellis (Gerry) of Cottage Grove, and Roger of Hastings

 

The Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke will be held 11am Saturday, May 19, 2010 at Our Saviour’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ninth St., Hastings. Visitation will be held 5-7pm Friday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings and 1 hour prior to the service at church.  Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. The pallbearers are grandchildren Ryan Fuchs, Rick Fuchs, Jacob Nelson, Jesse Nelson, Scott Neeley, Sarah Tardy, Michelle Traetow, AnnMarie Campbell and Amy Fox. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Klein, Chip Grosenick, Odell Barduson, Russ Gaddes, Ardell Semington, John Schutt, and Ray Miller. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210. Memorials are preferred.
